Strong acid cationic resin
This kind of resin contains a large number of strong acidic groups, such as sulfonic acid-SO3H, which is easy to dissociate H in solution, so it is strong acid.
After the resin is dissociated, the negative groups contained in the body, such as SO3-, can adsorb other cations in the binding solution.
These two reactions exchange H + in the resin with cations in the solution. The strong acid resin has a strong ability to dissociate and produce ion exchange in both acidic and alkaline solutions.
Weak acid cationic resin
This kind of resin contains weak acidic groups, such as Carboxyl-COOH, which can dissociate H+ in water and show acidity.
The remaining negative groups, such as R ≤ COO-(R is hydrocarbon group), can adsorb with other cations in the solution, resulting in cation exchange.
The acidity of the resin is weak, so it is difficult to dissociate and exchange ions at low pH, and can only play a role in alkaline, neutral, or slightly acidic solutions (such as pH5~14). This kind of resin is also regenerated with acid (it is easier to regenerate than strong acid resin).
Strong basic anion resin
This kind of resin contains strong basic groups, such as quaternary group (also known as a four-stage amino group)-NR3OH (R is hydrocarbon group), which can dissociate OH- in water and show strong alkalinity.
The positive group of the resin can bind to the anion adsorption in the solution, resulting in anion exchange.
This resin has strong dissociability and can work normally under different pH. It is regenerated with strong bases, such as NaOH.
Weak basic anion resin
These resins contain weak basic groups, such as primary amino group (also known as primary amino group)-NH2, secondary amino group (secondary amino group)-NHR, or tertiary amine group (tertiary amino group)-NR2, which can dissociate OH- in water and show weak alkalinity.
The positive group of this resin can be compared with the solution. The anion is adsorbed and bound, resulting in anion exchange.
In most cases, the resin adsorbs the entire other acid molecules in the solution. It can only work under neutral or acidic conditions, such as pH1~9. It can be regenerated with Na2CO3 and NH4OH.
